Hippeastrum is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Amaryllis family. It is characterised by subglobose bulbs and stolons. There are about 75 species worldwide, native to the tropics of the America and Asia, and now widely cultivated in many countries. The flowers of hippeastrum are typically large, red with white stripes or white with red and purple stripes. The stem of the hippeastrum is hollow. Hippeastrum is frequently observed to flourish in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, lawns, slopes and areas of partial shade. These plants can be cultivated in pots for the purpose of adorning bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, and corridors, as well as the garden, and for the production of fresh cut flowers.

Hippeastrum is a plant that thrives in light conditions, with some shade, and prefers a dry and cool climate. It is intolerant of cold, rain and direct sunlight. It should be grown in humus-rich, well-drained sandy soil and avoided from growing in stagnant water. The optimal temperature for growth is between 18 and 25 ℃ with a minimum of 5 ℃. The period of flowering is typically observed during the spring and summer seasons.
